After positioning the College Provincially, Tau went to on to represent Goldfields TVET College Nationally at the Great South African Cookbook Competition on the 16th of June 2016 at the Constitutional Hill – Johannesburg. Ms. Tau was accompanied by her Hospitality Lecturer Mrs. Sophia Duplessis – who was acting as her subordinate during the competition.
This competition was held amongst 10 contestants around all 9 provinces, each contestant representing their TVET College(s), in effort to celebrate the National Youth Month-corroborating that South Africa is indeed moving forward and bettering its education system after the 1976 Soweto Uprising, likewise; the 67minutes of Mandela where people from on corners of the world are encouraged to make a small gesture of solidarity with humanity and a step towards a global movement for good.
Tiger Brands endowed Tau the following prizes: A year of tuition and book fees paid, R5000.00 in cash to enjoy as she pleases, three copies of the Great South African cookbook to share with her family and friends, a video clip of the lead up to the Tiger Brands Great South African Student Chef Cook-Out. Ms. Tau has also been awarded a six months Internship Programme from the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
The College would like to extend a word of appreciation to both Tiger Brands and Ms. Dimakatso Tau for the prizes received on behalf of the College viz: R5000.00 of kitchen equipment, and a six-month sponsorship worth of tangible products to be utilized in the College Kitchen.
The College would like to wish Ms. Tau a thrive on! towards her immediate endeavors that she will be embarking on, and hopes that she will juggle her Studies and Internship Programme at Air Chefs well to prove again that she is indeed the Cream of the Crop.
